Tampa, Florida — A local dance studio is rehearsing for one of its biggest productions.

“It’s got a very interesting storyline; it’s so dramatic and theatrical,” said Shreya Narayanan, Co-Director of Shreya’s – An Expression of Dance Studio.

Not only do they keep the tradition of Indian culture alive through theater, music and dance, but they give back to local charities. “It gives you a lot of pleasure to give as oppose to receive and we’re lucky enough that we have enough to give,” said Director Sheila Narayanan.

Shreya’s – An Expression of Dance Studio donates it’s productions proceeds to a different charity and this time they decided to help out an all volunteer clinic. A first-year medical student at the University of South Florida, Shreya decided her dance studio would donate to USF’s Bridge Clinic, a student-run free facility.

“I’ve gotten to see a lot of the wonderful things that they do and it seemed like a great place to donate.”

The clinic provides free healthcare for those who can’t afford health insurance. The doctors, along with medical students, volunteer their time to treat patients before they end up in the emergency room. “We feel very fortunate that we have a student that’s willing to raise funds and help the Bridge Clinic keep operating at a great level. The fact that they choose us as the people that will benefit from that fundraiser,  I think that’s great,” said Oscar Rojas, USF clinic manager.

As for Shreyas – An Expression of Dance Studio, dancing to raise money is just a way to give back and help others make a difference.
